Gum Disease & Teeth Whitening

Gum Disease

Three out of four American adults has gum disease. The number one sign of gum disease is bleeding gums and can be accompanied by gum pain and soreness. Gum disease needs to be taken seriously because it can lead to missing teeth, heart disease and diabetes. The two stages of gum disease are gingivitis and periodontitis. Gingivitis is the milder stage of gum disease and can be reversed by frequent flossing and having your teeth cleaned routinely by a professional. Periodontitis the more serious and damaging stage and results in gums and bone receding from the teeth.

The plaque being removed from the exposed portions of the gums and teeth handles the treatment of gingivitis. Periodontitis treatment consists of a procedure to remove the bacteria from the deep pockets of the gums. In severe cases of periodontitis, surgery may be required. If you would like to prevent or treat gum disease, it is important to see a dentist. Dr. Lazer and his professional staff are skilled in preventing and treating gum disease. If you suspect you have gum disease, contact our office in Owings Mills, Maryland, which is conveniently located just outside of Baltimore.

Teeth Whitening

If you would like to have more confidence when you smile, teeth whitening is an excellent way to give you brighter and more beautiful teeth. Dr. Lazer now performs Zoom!® Teeth Whitening, which can lighten your teeth up to eight shades in just one hour. The Zoom Teeth Whitening System is safe for teenagers and adults. To ensure that you are a great candidate for this procedure, your teeth will be examined prior to having your teeth whitened.

Applying a special hydrogen peroxide gel to your teeth performs teeth whitening. We then apply the Zoom light, which activates the gel and penetrates your teeth, resulting in lightening of stains and discoloration. The results of teeth whitening are long lasting, and can even be indefinite if you use touch-up whitening gel and seek professional dental care on a regular basis. If you are interested in whiter teeth, so that you can have more confidence when you smile, please contact Dr. Lazer’s office in Owings Mills, MD.
