One of the most popular non-invasive and painless cosmetic procedures is teeth whitening. If you have stained, yellowed, or discolored teeth, call Dr. Ed Lazer for comfortable and comprehensive treatment.
What Causes Tooth Discoloration?
Tooth can become discolored from a variety of conditions:
Smoking and Tobacco Products: Tar and nicotine found in tobacco products create stubborn stains on teeth. Tar naturally darkens enamel, and nicotine causes teeth to become yellow, so years of smoking or tobacco use can cause increased discoloration.
Foods and Drinks: Certain fruits, coffee, tea, and soda contain color pigments called chromogens. These pigments attach to and stain tooth enamel.
Medication: Certain antihistamines, antipsychotics, and high blood pressure medications may darken teeth.
Age: Over time, the outer layer of tooth enamel thins and wears away. The yellow dentin layer underneath enamel can show after years of wear and tear.
Trauma: After an injury, teeth can lay down more dentin and discolor teeth. Chips and cracks in teeth can also cause discoloration.
Teeth Whitening Treatment
We offer Zoom!™ teeth whitening to our patients for whiter and brighter teeth in under an hour. This in-office treatment can whiten teeth by 8 shades and is great for events like weddings and graduations.
Teeth are whitened through this procedure using hydrogen peroxide whitening gel which is applied to teeth. The gel is activated using the Zoom light, lightening teeth and removing stains. After treatment, fluoride gel is applied to teeth to minimize tooth sensitivity.
