Why Choose the Dentist for Botox?

The field of dentistry has recently embraced the use of Botox® and dermal fillers such as Juvederm as a part of their services. As a dentist, Dr. Chibb has an in-depth knowledge of the muscles, nerves, and structure of the face and neck. This enables her to strategically place the injections for the best possible outcome, one that is natural-looking and comfortable. Patients also enjoy the added convenience of being able to receive touch-up treatments a couple of times a year as needed during routine dental care visits. Dr. Chibb can monitor the effects of your treatments and make recommendations for maintaining your results over time.

Botox & Dermal Fillers: what to expect

Dr. Chibb meets with patients for a thorough assessment of their skin condition and health, cosmetic goals and to discuss expected results. Placing Botox and dermal filler injections is a relatively simple process performed using a local anesthetic in the comfort of our office. She will gently place the injections beneath the skin surface using a micro-needle. With the local anesthetic, most patients experience little to no discomfort during the process.

Once complete, you can resume your daily activities. Minor redness or tenderness at the injection site is common and typically dissipates in the first 24 hours. Results will begin to be noticeable after a couple of days, once any redness or swelling is gone. You can expect to see a gradual change and improvement in the appearance of the treated area over the first couple of weeks.

Facial Treatment FAQs

How long does Botox or dermal fillers last?

Botox can last for 3-6 months, depending on the area treated and the overall condition of your skin. Dermal fillers can last longer, with some patients maintaining their results for up to 18 months. Dr. Chibb will recommend touch-up treatments as needed.

Am I a candidate for Botox or a dermal filler?

Most patients are candidates for these facial esthetic treatments. Dr. Chibb will discuss your medical history and goals prior to placing any injections to ensure your health and safety.

How does Botox work?

Botox helps smooth lines and wrinkles, especially frown lines by relaxing the underlying muscles. Over time due to natural facial expressions we can create more “permanent” lines where we frown, smile or squint. This is partially due to over-contracted muscles that are able to relax after a Botox injection.

How do dermal fillers work?

Dermal fillers are designed to restore lost volume beneath the skin. As we age and as a result of lifestyle habits and environmental exposure, we lose elasticity and volume as our natural collagen production is reduced. Dermal fillers help to “boost” collagen and stimulate our natural production of collagen to improve skin tone and appearance.

What not to do after getting dermal fillers?

After getting dermal fillers patients should avoid exposing the area to hot or cold, excessive pressure, strenuous exercise, alcohol, and smoking.

Can I wash my face after dermal fillers?

After getting dermal fillers it is important that patients avoid touching their face for at least 6 hours post procedure. Patients can use a gentle cleanser or moisturizer, but this should be done carefully and in moderation.
