Our dentists use dental veneers on the front of teeth to improve their look and strength. Dr. Lazer and Dr. Doroshenko offer experienced care for the placement of dental veneers for patients who want to fix cosmetic issues, address tooth damage, or close gaps between teeth. Veneers are one of the best cosmetic treatments we provide. Depending on your unique dental health needs and cosmetic goals, we offer two main types of veneers:
- Prepless veneers: as the name suggests, this type of veneer does not require tooth preparation and is considered a removable or reversible restoration. Prepless veneers do not need tooth preparation and can be reversed.
- Traditional veneers: Traditional veneers are typically made of porcelain. They are the highest-quality and most durable type of dental veneer, a permanent dental restoration, and highly customizable to your aesthetic goals.
The first step is a consultation with one of our dentists to evaluate your needs and goals. Prepless and traditional veneers can be the perfect solution for a smile makeover that addresses a range of concerns. Both options are color-matched and custom-made to enhance your smile and overall appearance. Prepless veneers have become a sought-after cosmetic treatment because we can preserve your natural tooth structure while giving you the beautiful smile you desire.
What Are Traditional Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are a traditional dental veneer and a permanent restoration. They consist of ultra-thin layers of porcelain that look and feel like natural teeth. Medical-grade material is an advanced treatment option. It offers durable results and will resist stains.
Our dental care team uses porcelain veneers to restore:
- Aging teeth that have worn down
- Broken or chipped teeth
- Stained, discolored, or yellowed teeth
- Small gaps between teeth
- Stained, unsightly or washed-out fillings
- Misshapen or crooked teeth to close spaces
At our Owings Mills dental office, we recommend porcelain veneers for patients who want a long-lasting way to cover cosmetic problems. Veneers are permanent because we prepare your teeth by removing a small part of the natural tooth structure. This helps the veneers stick well and ensures they don’t look or feel bulky.
However, this process can’t be undone. You must be ready to permanently cover your teeth with veneers or choose another treatment.

Porcelain Veneers FAQs
Learn more about veneers with answers to these common questions.
Can I still get tooth cavities with porcelain veneers?
Even with veneers covering your teeth, there is always a chance of getting cavities. A veneer can protect the tooth enamel that it’s covering, but veneers don’t cover the whole tooth. However, it is only as effective as how you care for your teeth. Practice excellent oral hygiene, floss, and visit the dentist regularly to protect yourself from cavities.
Do porcelain veneers stain?
Porcelain veneers do not stain or get darker over time. Dental porcelain is a stain-resistant material. You will not have to worry about your veneer getting yellow and standing out from your other teeth. Additionally, you can’t whiten porcelain so consider a teeth whitening procedure at the time of treatment.
Will dental insurance cover veneers?
Dental insurance will not cover the cost of porcelain veneers for cosmetic reasons. However, insurance may cover placing a veneer to repair a broken, infected, or chipped tooth. Discuss the procedure with your dentist and insurance provider to learn what they can cover. We also provide affordable financing options and payment plans to help anyone get dental care.
Do veneers break easily?
Porcelain veneers are strong like natural teeth. However, they can break under pressure. Breaks, chips, and cracks are uncommon, but they can happen. Do not use your veneer and teeth to open things, chew on ice, or bite anything hard that’s not food.
Also, do not directly bite on hard foods with your veneers. Chew with your back teeth like normal instead. Veneers cover the front teeth, which are thinner than the back teeth.
How long do porcelain veneers last?
Porcelain veneers are strong, but they may need replacement down the road. They can last from ten to thirty years, sometimes longer. Patients should take good care of their veneers because they can break with extreme pressure. Dental veneers are not invincible.
Can you drink coffee with porcelain veneers?
We advise patients with porcelain veneers to avoid coffee. Veneers are stain-resistant. However, your natural teeth are not. Too much coffee can stain your teeth, leaving your veneers brighter and make them stand out when you smile.
